THIS SITE IS NAMED AFTER THE BURROWING OWL,first found in chile in  1782 by an italian jesuit priest . they are 8.5-11inches in height,wingspan of 20-24inches,and weigh 6-7.5 ounces,life span of 9 years in the wild and over 10 years in captivity,have been called ground owl.prairie dog owl,rattlesnake owl,,are native to north america,west and mid west states,florida,mexico and central america, declining in numbers due to habitat loss
